Las Vegas

22 05 2009

In about 2 weeks I’ll be going to Las Vegas for a chess tourney! I’m pretty excited. If I win first place in my section (Under 1600) then I win about $4000! It’s pretty awesome. I’ll definetly spend it on a 13-Inch MacBook and a 32GB iPod Touch. It couldn’t possibly be spent on anything better :] I might also get a Mighty Mouse…but that seems a little pointless.  ipodmac

I’m going to Reno tomorrow for a chess tournament. It’s gonna be a toughie! But fun. When the all the rounds are over, I’ll be heading over to Circus Circus with my friends. *aRcAdE tImE!* w00t! I’ll probably do some other fun things too…Except gambling :] I”ll be taking pictures and putting them on the “Reno Pictures” page, as soon as I can.

Girls Making History In Idaho

17 03 2009

ChampsLast Saturday was the Idaho State Scholastic Chess Championship, open to all K-12 students. There are sections for each grade level up through 9th. My friend, Katie, and I decided to play up in the High School Division. Never before has a girl won the title of “Top Scholastic”. It’s always been the guys title…but that changed on Saturday. Not only did a girl win 1st place at the tournament, girls also won 2nd and 3rd. Katie and I tied for 1st place with 4.5/5 points. Due to the tiebreak system, Katie was awarded 1st, I was awarded 2nd, and the other girl, Erica, was rewarded 3rd, with 4/5 points. Because this was something that has never happended before, Channel 6 sent out a camera guy to interview us.

All three of us were battling it out last month to win the Girl’s Scholastic Chess Championship, open to all K-12 girls. All three of us tied for 1st place with 3/4 points, all losing to each other. Because of tiebreaks, Erica was awarded 1st, I was awarded 2nd, and Katie 3rd.
